Well Spring is only a week away and after a long cold Winter I think we are all ready for some warmth to kick in, in saying that the last 3 months has seen a incredible winter spawn bite with some great captures and big numbers of fish caught by all clients.

With the change of season brings a change of fishing here in the SEQ estuaries systems as the days will get longer, warmer and the water temps will start to rise and with that will see the change in the way we fish on charters and different species come more available.

Broadwater Area- We will start to see more bait pushing into the system and with this more variety of fish chasing it in including Snapper, Spangled Emperor, Morwong, Tusk Fish, Jewfish, Flathead and more targeting them on soft plastics and cranka crabs, spring time normally brings bigger tides so it’s important to time these areas and not fish them on the larger king tides as there is to much movement.

Canals- This is one area we will be fishing more in the coming months as the bigger tides and the warmer water pushed in the canals with the bait and fish following it in, fish such as Mangrove Jacks, Trevally, Big Bream, Estuary Cod, Flathead will be the fish we will be targeting more on surface lures which is a great way to catch fish as it’s so visual and super exciting.
Last year in between the September to December months we scored over 28 Mangrove Jacks between 40cm to 56cm on a variety of lure techniques and to me this is the best time to target them on lures during the day.

Normally on every charter I try and fish 3 different locations and use a variety of lure techniques to target different fish so clients get the full experience, below is what so teach on every charter.

  • Full run on how to set up your gear for estuary lure fishing.
  • How to tie knots
  • Learn how to cast lures correctly
  • Learn all the techniques such as Soft Plastics, Cranka Crabs, Surface & Crankbait fishing .
  • How to read a fish finder correctly
  • Lure selection
  • Learn how to read tides and conditions
  • Tournament tuition
  • Learn how to target different species and how they feed.

I do charters in 4 locations- Gold Coast, Redcliffe, Mooloolaba & Maroon Dam for a max of 2 people so you can come solo or bring someone along with all your fishing gear included with a top of the range Triton Bass Boat.

Charter bookings for September are booked out but I’m taking booking now for October & November so book in to avoid disappointment.
